THE ADVANTAGES OF E-LEARNING AND ITS PROSPECTS IN THE MOROCCAN PUBLIC SCHOOL

Abstract

The use of the Internet for educational purposes has been widespread in the past few decades. One of the most important advantages of e-learning is the provision of distance learning, which provides multiple advantages compared to traditional learning.Consequently, many educational systems around the world have adoptede-learning. In the United States of America, for example, the number of institutions offering distance learning increased from 56% in 1997-1998 to more than 90% in 2000-2001.What is more, the number of students who chose distance learning doubled in the same period from 1.7 million learners to 3.1 million. Thus, many educational systems around the world are offering more and moredistance training courses.

               This growing interest in e-learning makes us wonder about what kind of benefits this type of education offer to both learners and educational institutions.What are the advantages of e-learning? What are the challenges that this type of learning raise? What are the prospects for this type of learning in the Moroccan public school? These are some problems the present research aims to examine.
