CONTRIBUTION OF ASMR (AUTONOMOUS SENSORY MERIDIAN RESPONSE) PHENOMENON TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF COMMUNICATION SCIENCES: ANALYSIS OF COMMUNICATION PRACTICES AND DIGITAL SOCIAL INTERACTIONS

Ab1stract The objective of this research is to introduce ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response) as a digital phenomenon that has emerged and spread through social media platforms. The study examines ASMR development using the elements of the telegraphic communication model, and it explores ASMR impact on the field of communication sciences by analyzing the practices and digital social interactions before and after its emergence. In addition, the study addresses the fundamental question of how ASMR contributes to the development of the field of communication sciences through the analysis of communicative practices and associated digital social interactions. We compare the communicative elements observed in practices and digital social interactions before and after the emergence of ASMR by employing a descriptive comparative method. We use a qualitative approach as well by using research tools namely questionnaires and semi-structured interviews to gather comprehensive and in-depth qualitative data. Our study sample consists of 60 participants, including 25 ASMR content creators and 35 viewers on digital social platforms. Overall, the findings demonstrate that the ASMR phenomenon significantly contributes to the development of digital communicative practices and fosters an interactive and therapeutic space between creators and viewers. Our study recommends investigating how ASMR enhances the relationship between creators and viewers in the realm of digital media; as well as analyzing the auditory-visual techniques and methods employed in ASMR content production and their influence on audience interactivity.
