ENDOWMENT MUDARABAH SUKUK AND THE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY OF ISLAMIC BANKS

Abstract The social responsibility is not just an option for Islamic or Participation Banks as it is for other financial institutions and companies. Rather, this responsibility is an inherent part of these banks and their characteristics. It is a fundamental purpose for which these banks were theorized and established, as well as for the various services they offer. Therefore, it cannot be avoided. The problem is: to what extent can Participation Banks activate their social responsibility by harnessing endowment sukuk in general and Endowment Mudarabah Sukuk in particular, in order to overcome the various financial problems and obstacles they face, especially those related to activating participatory financing formulas based on Musharakah and Mudarabah, and contributing to development within society, achieving Islamic financing objectives, and all of this without harming their efficiency and profitability? Methodology: reliance on the descriptive-analytical approach based on observation and inference when attempting to root and study the various issues and matters related to social responsibility and endowment sukuk. Important results: Activating the social role for Islamic and Participation Banks only requires concerted efforts between the various institutions that form the entity of the Islamic economy, especially Islamic and Participation Banks and endowment institutions.
